| Name: Froot Contact Info: frooting, AIM: frugivorousOther Characters Played: Apping in Youichi Hiruma as well Requested apartment: N/A Character Name: Peter Parker ("Spider-Man") Canon: The Amazing Spider-Man, Marvel 616 Canon Point: After the events of "One Moment In Time" Background/History: [x]Personality:To understand Peter, you have to understand what philosophies he's chosen to define himself by. That can only be explained through the iconic catch-phrase and personal motto of the man who came to accept and respect his title as the Amazing Spider-Man:‶With great power comes great responsibility.″ Brave to a fault, he dons Spider-Man's mask to thwart the evil he's made it his responsibility to bring to justice. Because of this strict sense of duty he upholds, he is not the frail, bullied kid he was in high school before his abilities manifested; he has no issue jumping into situations far over his head (almost typed "pay grade", that'd be an instant app rejection), courage to overcome the impossible stronger than the fear of remaining idle. It's his righteousness that fuels it, the memory of his dead Uncle Ben and the fact that he was powerless to stop the man's death that drives it. "I'm trying, Uncle Ben... and I'll always keep trying. That's my promise."
And Peter does keep trying, knowing there never will be an answer to his deep yearning for the pride of his family, friends, and city—he's stubborn. Stubborn enough that sometimes he just can't leave things well enough alone.
As the plucky comic relief character to his own series, he has a tried and true tactic of aggravating his enemies (and allies, sadly enough) with stream-of-consciousness witticism and wile. He presses and presses and presses until it's overbearing. It's no wonder he's known to many as the intolerable, annoying hero from America's legendarily-loud New York City, and he lives up to the infamy with a sassy attitude, campy humour, and an endless internal monologue he can't quite switch off. The majority of it is intentional, even strategically used against his opponents to anger them; shake them up and make them err. The rest?
Defence mechanisms. For Peter, they come in the form of holier-than-thou mockeries, an unfaltering optimism, and laughing in the faces of danger and injury. When he's stressed, he's a chatterbox. When he's fearful, he's the court jester. Even his villains who get him under-thumb find it hard to believe, hissing, "Always with the wisecracks" or "Just shut up."
Although Peter comes across as a total weirdo, his sharp tongue and equally sharp wit are a complimentary testament to his broad intellect. Not only did he receive a full scholarship to Empire State University and graduated with a Masters degree in Biophysics, the man supposedly has a staggering IQ north of 250, intelligent enough to be recognized by some of Earth's most brilliant scientists. It's one of his more flattering traits; he can carry conversation well, takes pride in the extent of his knowledge, and is confident in his nerdy lifestyle. Though he does make some pretty numb-skulled mistakes in social situations and making important judgement calls, but it isn't surprising how he's managed to carry himself this far in his illustrious "career" as Spider-Man.
Yet, in the shadow of his beautiful mind, he's an instinctual man driven by that Spider-Sense and how he feels in the thrill of the moment. He's reactionary; adrenaline is a big factor for him, and his reactions to danger and love are strikingly alike. Peter is prone to creature comforts (rarely finding them—he's not that lucky) and finds solace in simple things such as a good rest, a decent meal, and spending time with his loved ones, especially the notable ladies in his life. Even he admits that he's doomed to be a helpless romantic, caught saying "It's like going out with girls! I can't give it up!" The man's been around the block—so to speak—and has had many loves, many conquests, and many, many heartbreaks. Things that drag him out of his brain, such as lazing around or playing around, are hailed as scarce luxuries he oftentimes feels rather guilty for indulging in.
Peter has a notoriously short temper, frequently seen when friends and family members are in danger, and is liable to make a scene or hollow threats when he finds himself overwhelmed with emotion. Matters of the heart always glean his undivided attention—he gets serious when issues themselves are serious.
Maturity strikes when he needs a sober view of people, including himself and his own actions. Self-consciousness is a major character flaw; he's often found blaming himself for matters well beyond his control, and events in his life that were brought on by his immaturity or neglect (see: the death of his Uncle Ben, and his girlfriend Gwen Stacy). He has a poor self-esteem, despite coming across as an egotistical optimist, and doubts often in the wake of petty mistakes and life's missteps. He's dubbed this "Parker luck" as a way of coping, feeling cursed to a stereotypically overdramatic existence.
Injury and hurt have affected him a lot. Peter is a wounded soul, putting on a tough front vicariously through the guise of Spider-Man. Occasionally—especially in the younger days of his heroics, though infrequently now that he's matured—he finds it difficult to work in teams considering the fact that his style of fighting and his own detective work is specialized and seclusive, respectively.
So don't be surprised if he brushes you off to be on his own. Chances are, since he's a helpless extrovert with self-imposed loner tendencies, he'll find his way back to take comfort in the ones closest to him. Abilities/Powers:‶Spider physiology″Peter manifested proportionate powers of a spider after he was bitten by an irradiated common house spider. From this, he's gained numerous superhuman abilities: ∙ Strength (can lift up to ten tons, holds back on strikes unless he's fighting someone like him, can jump several stories vertically) ∙ Speed (an olympic athlete on crack, capable of running/moving far faster than a natural human, can catch up with cars on foot) ∙ Stamina (produces less fatigue toxins during physical activity, can stay at his peak for several hours, can hold his breath for eight minutes or more) ∙ Durability (takes hits like a champ, falls from incredible heights with no discomfort, a normal human's punch will break their wrist if he's flexing) ∙ Agility (extraordinarily limber and flexible, tissues are twice as elastic as your average human's, enhanced coordination and balance) ∙ Equilibrium (perfect balance in any position imaginable on any object no matter how small or narrow, adjusts position by instinct) ∙ Reflexes (40 times greater than those of an ordinary human, can dodge almost any attack, or even gunfire if he's distanced enough) ∙ Healing (broken bones/tissue damages heal up in days, high tolerance to diseases and drugs, radioactive blood kills foreign contaminants) ‶Spider-Sense″Peter has a finely tuned spider-sense (or "danger" sense) that tingles at the back of his skull when there's trouble, even while he's sleeping, stunned, or distracted—it's nigh clairvoyant in quality, though not nearly as over-powered; it lends him several hundredths of a second's warning and it works hand-in-hand with his superhuman reflexes, allowing him to dodge attacks and avoid injury. At times, it may circumstantially be triggered several minutes before an event, depending on when, where, and what the gravity of the danger is.
The spider-sense is directional, and can work like a compass to find his enemies or whatever's proving to be a danger at the time. Used once, like Dare-Devil's radar sense, when he was blinded by the New Vulture, his senses allowed him to hone in on the danger so he could parry and retaliate naturally—working in tune with specific radio frequencies, especially from his "spider-tracers" (small tracking devices kept in his utility belt, planted on someone he needs to hunt down later), he can follow the frequencies to his perpetrators.
In severe cases, it can nag him aggressively enough to cause him physical pain and migraine-level headaches. Items/Weapons:∙ His jazzy hero duds, which typically includes utility belt (extra web clips, spider-tracers), but if it's too much lemme know! ∙ Wrist-mounted web-shooters ∙ His dumb cell phone
Sample Entry:I'm so sorry. Sample Entry Two:Yet another case of Parker Luck.
Except it’s bad this time. Worse.
Some dystopian setting, a city with its buildings in disrepair. Windows barred and boarded, or fogged up with grit and cracked under the pressure of the spooky atmosphere.
Not quite comparable to the slim chances of a torrential downpour on a clear night’s swing home, or one of those “final calls” you narrowly miss trying to catch the last bus and a freaking break.
No, this is a bit on the not-so-funny-now side of his losing streak, and Peter can almost hear his own city—his New York—upheave at the loss; it’s completely blind-siding.
Things were so up and down, back home. Wheels were turning, pots were being stirred. No goddamn time to leave it all behind for this.
Whatever and wherever this is.
“Face it Tiger, you just hit the jackpot.” A quote, whispered dryly—he’s been thirsty for hours.
Nice time for a sardonic thought (now’s not the peachiest time to act bitter, Petey, just look on the bright side; no money, no headaches), but what else can he spice the situation up with? And how do you cheer yourself up when your hands are glued to one big fat lie of a peeling billboard?
IN HAVEN, WE ARE ALL SAFE… TOGETHER
The depiction makes him want to vomit, and for a moment he considers it.
Wouldn't be the first time he’s upchucked chili dog in his mask. Sure as hell wouldn’t be the last.
“Where’s the cutout I can stick my face into? I mean, what kind of tourist trap is this?” He asks the woman holding her gas mask with a pretty smile. “Would you take my picture, sweet cheeks? I’m into scrapbooking my struggles. It’s a hobby.”
A reply would be nice, even though these chipper poster-folk can't offer Peter the information he wants so desperately to unearth. There's that creeping feeling at the back of his skull (that tingle that spells danger, danger, danger) that forces him to entertain the idea that this vast community—even the Haven veterans—will never find what they're seeking.
It scares him. Truly and honestly does.
"We're gonna' be chalk full of stiff-smiled Kodak moments."
Still, even now, Peter is a firm believer in hope.
And when he drops from the sign only to look away from it in earnest, mask blazing red on the backdrop of night, Spider-Man addresses the apartments and the people hidden away.
(The people he's ready to protect.)
"But I'm ready when you are." |
